Though for you Doctor Who fans, you should know that Gallifreyans can see ultraviolet to (as well as bits of infrared), but they are not Prot's people. One could argue that Prot's people are humans evolved/ascended from us, but that is up for debate.

My mom bought this movie on DVD for my birthday because I liked it. And as some other commenters have said, I believe that Prot WAS an ALIEN! However, he was an alien in a human body (alien mind, human body). In a deleted scene, Prot draws up a map of The Milky Way Galaxy seen from an entirely different part of space, possibly from where his alien part came from. Though in the deleted bits they prove him to be an alien in both mind and body. Humans don't see ultraviolet, Prot's people can.

In theory, regardless if he was a savant, or an alien, Im wondering, what understanding the scientists got, would shed new info elsewhere. I.e. 1. Lets say hes an alien, they (scientists) do what they can to focus on Kpax for a civilization. (First form of alien contact) Or 2. If a savant, im sure they are still looking for civilization, (since they dont know if alien, or savant) and if no discovery of aliens by our tech, would the "math" of his planetary system he gave shed new light on other bodies?
